Thomas Willigenburg

255 CURRICULUM VITAE Thomas Willigenburg was born on October 25th, 1993 in Eemnes, The Netherlands. He grew up in Eemnes together with his parents and two sisters, Sanne and Joyce. Thomas attended secondary school at Scholengemeenschap Huizermaat in Huizen. Besides the general courses, he followed several additional courses, including Art and Art History. After graduating cum laude in 2012, he started medical school at Utrecht University. In the second year of his bachelor’s programme, Thomas had his first encounter with radiation oncology during an elective course on imageguided radiotherapy. In the final year of his master, he decided to do both a clinical and research internship at the Department of Radiation Oncology of the UMC Utrecht, under supervision of drs. C.E. Kleynen (clinical) and dr. M.P.W. Intven (research). After obtaining his master’s degree in Medicine cum laude in 2018, Thomas started working as a medical doctor (ANIOS) at the Department of Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology of the St. Antonius hospital in Nieuwegein and Utrecht. In April 2019, he returned to the Department of Radiation Oncology of the UMC Utrecht to start a PhD project under supervision of prof. dr. ir. J.J.W. Lagendijk, dr. J.R.N. van der Voort van Zyp, and dr. J.C.J. de Boer, resulting in this thesis. In parallel with his PhD project, Thomas obtained a Master of Science degree in Epidemiology at Utrecht University, specialising in Clinical Epidemiology and Medical Statistics. In September 2022, Thomas started his residency (AIOS) to become a radiation oncologist at the Department of Radiation Oncology of the UMC Utrecht under supervision of drs. I.E. van Dam and dr. J.L. Noteboom. Thomas currently lives in Utrecht together with Erwin and their Labrador Luuk. In his spare time he enjoys walks with Luuk, cycling, drawing and cooking dinners for friends and family. A
