René van der Bel

Curriculum Vitae | 151 | Appendices Curriculum Vitae René van der Bel, son of Ans van Dijk and Johan van der Bel and brother to Laurens van der Bel, was born on December 8 th , 1986 in Rotterdam. He graduated from secondary school at the Rotterdams Montessori Lyceum in 2005. Hereafter, he went to study Technical Medicine at the University of Twente in Enschede, The Netherlands. Where he obtained his Master´s degree in the specialization track ‘Reconstructive Medicine´ in November 2012. For his master´s thesis he investigated the bone forming capacity of cells from different bone graft sources. In December 2013, he started his PhD trajectory at the departments of Nephrology and Vascular Medicine of the Academic Medical Center at the University of Amsterdam under supervision of professor E.S.G. Stroes MD PhD, professor J.J. Homan van der Heide MD PhD, C.T.P. Krediet MD PhD and A.J. Nederveen PhD. Where he focused on physiological studies on modulation and assessment of kidney blood flow and oxygenation in humans, employing advanced technologies and analysis techniques. Besides working on his PhD, René is committed to promoting the Technical Medicine profes- sion in The Netherlands. Since april 2016, he is a board member of the Dutch Society for Technical Medicine (NVvTG), where he currently holds the position of Treasurer. In his spare time, René is enthusiastic about marine biology, enjoying SCUBA diving for which he obtained his SSI assistant dive instructor certification in 2015 and maintaining a beautiful coral reef aquarium at his home in Amsterdam.
