Abraham Sirrrrrrr! It is so hard to put into words how grateful I am that I had you as my mentor from the very beginning. You’ve let me grow in so many ways that I can’t fully describe it, and I wouldn’t be the researcher I am today without you. I can easily say that we were the perfectly matched team. Back then, me as a baby researcher and you as an experienced postdoc, you showed me how to approach problems critically, how to ask the right questions, how to represent myself with confidence and I’m super proud if I even inherited only a tiny slice of your unmatched writing talent. Over the years, we also grew as a team, and became strong partners in crime with your technical input and my bio background. I already knew how to work hard, but you always pushed me to the next level, but more importantly, you were also there to hold me back when I was about the hit the wall. Thank you for being such an invested and motivating supervisor, but beyond that, thank you for becoming my friend. Because, oh boy, so much has changed over the years! I will keep on joking about the time you had to scream for help from Astrid when I was crying and you were too awkward to give me a hug! I think it’s safe to say that we’ve crossed that friendship threshold and we’ve had so much fun together. You are the one who introduced me to Takumi ramen, a gap in my food knowledge I didn’t know existed. We also worked out together, although, let’s be honest, sometimes looked more like your were trying to kill and get rid of your PhD student. We celebrated the 4th of July when you couldn’t go home, you showed us what a real NFL Superbowl looks like through American eyes, and taught me the charm of Polaroids. You gave a whole new meaning to the word ‘interesting’, and showed me that a “that’s a later problem” mindset really works. You're missed now that you're overseas again, and I'm so happy you made all the e ort to be here and celebrate with me! As you always sing so passionately: “LEEF, alsof het je laatste dag is!”
