78 Chapter 3 Implementation strategies A total of 350 unique strategies were identified, the median number of implementation strategies per study was 6 (IQR 4-9). These identified strategies matched with 45 strategies from the ERIC taxonomy. There were four strategies that were not perfectly fitting with the ERIC strategies, according to the first reviewer. These four strategies could be categorized into one ERIC strategy by EI and DS after discussion. A barrier assessment was performed in sixteen (33%) studies; however, how the barrier assessment was used to develop and select implementation strategies remained unclear. For example, Dykes et al. [31] identified barriers when piloting their FPI (Fall TIPS) and compiled a list of implementation strategies, yet they did not indicate how these strategies were connected to the identified barriers. Implementation domains Most studies used multiple implementation strategies, from different ERIC domains. Figure 2 highlights the number of studies that have reported an implementation strategy from each of the ERIC domains at least once. All but two of the included studies used at least one implementation strategy from the domain ‘train and educate stakeholders’. Table 2 presents details regarding the number of implementation strategies for each study and the corresponding domains. Six studies used strategies from seven domains [30, 31, 49, 59, 63, 64]. Forty-one studies used strategies from two up to six domains. One study [41] used a single strategy from a single domain.
