146 Chapter 4 11 having the highest importance/uncertainty. For each of the themes, the median rank and interquartile range (IQR) was calculated to show the central aggregation of responses where there was agreement. From literature, a three-level cut-off score was implemented so that 1–4 was considered “low,” 5–8 was “moderate,” and 9–11 was “high.” At this point, we decided to deviate from the traditional scenario approach of taking only the most important/uncertain drivers into next steps. Step 2 results reflected what experts perceived to be the most urgent drivers, but we thought it important to create a “landscape” of all possible drivers and its potential organizational impact. Thus, in Step 3, the 10 themes were further elucidated for their organizational mitigating measures (i.e., identification of measures to handle the consequences of relevant and uncertain forces). All experts who had participated in Step 2 were invited again for Step 3, including additional Sanquin employees who had not previously participated in prior steps. Three focus groups were organized lasting approximately an hour each. Author P. L. S. moderated these focus groups, with additional note-takers present. Each group looked at different themes and had in-depth discussions regarding the mitigating measures per theme until the point of consensus. These mitigating measures were preserved both as individual ideas and also summarized for its main ideas per theme. 4.3 Results I. Descriptives There was a total of 55 experts who participated overall, with 12 (22%) participating in two of the steps and 5 (9%) experts participating in all three steps. There were 19 experts in Step 2 and 14 experts in Step 3. Overall, the majority of experts were Sanquin employees (Table 4.1).
