208 | Chapter 8 Conclusion This feasibility study of the new voice prosthesis ‘PVHP’, showed that the patient acceptance was 40% (6/15). Patient acceptance seems to depend on device lifetime rather than side effects such as stickiness of the valve and the use of lubricant. The device lifetime was relatively short (median 64 days) and therefore the main limiting factor in acceptance by patients. Subjective and objective voice ratings did not show differences between the regularly used VP and the PVHP. The search for an affordable new voice prosthesis with a long device lifetime remains a complicated challenge.
