Prophylactic Replacement of Voice Prosthesis | 179 7 Results Patient characteristics The patient, tumor, and treatment characteristics of the 194 patients are shown in table 1. The majority of the patients were male (79%), and the mean age was 63 years (SD 10.8). Most patients had laryngeal carcinoma (72%), and the majority were treated with (chemo)radiotherapy (67%) before TL. Half of the patients underwent a bilateral neck dissection during TL. The median overall survival (OS) was 60.8 months (95% CI 38.7 – 82.9). The mean followup time was 66.4 months (95% CI 58.5 – 74.3). Table 1.
