| 156 Figure 2 shows the five themes, all of which were represented by focus group and interview data. In the main theme (1) ‘Coming to terms with dementia’ people dealt with emotions and moved forward. This continuous process was influenced by (3) ‘The social network as a source of support’ and (4) ‘The challenges and realities of formal support’. (2) ‘Navigating life with dementia as a caregiver’ was a concurrent process and highlights caregiver burden, it was influenced by (4) ‘The challenges and realities of formal support’. Coming to terms with dementia allowed people to start (5) ‘Self-caring and preparing for tomorrow’, in which they focused on their current health and planning for the future.
