| 101 4 Appendix C. Additional information on excluded data. The answers options ‘not applicable’ and ‘I don’t know’ were excluded from the primary analysis as we did not know the exact reasoning behind this option (eg participants did not receive this type of support, did not remember receiving it, or simply did not have an opinion on it). To provide some more context on those excluded answers, we have for each variable mentioned in figures 1-3 in the paper carried out statistical tests to determine whether those excluded from the primary analysis data differ from those included in the primary analysis on the demographic variables gender (chi-square tests) and age (independent sample t-test). These additional analyses yielded the following results: For people with dementia, there was no difference in age between those with excluded data and those with included data. People with dementia whose data were excluded differed in gender compared to people with included data on the following variables; confidence in asking for help (χ(1)=4.54, p=.033) and their satisfaction with strategies to live with dementia positively (χ(1)=4.34, p=.037). Informal caregivers whose data were excluded differed in age compared to people with included data on the following variables: confidence in asking for help (t(297)= -2.82, p=.005), confidence in handling changes in future (t(297)= -2.18, p=.030), confidence in living with dementia positively (t(297)= -2.52, p=.012) their satisfaction with information about prognosis (t(297)= -2.66, p=.008) and information about diagnosis (t(297)= -2.37, p=.019). Informal caregivers whose data were excluded differed in gender compared to people with included data on the following variables: confidence in asking for help (χ(1)=8.12, p=.004), confidence in handling changes in future (χ(1)=8.58, p=.003), confidence in living with dementia positively (χ(1)=8.12, p=.004), confidence in handling challenges of dementia (χ(1)=4.48, p=.034), confidence in dealing with challenges of caregiving (χ(1)=4.97, p=.039), their satisfaction information about services/supports (χ(1)=4.47, p=.034), information about diagnosis (χ(1)=4.57, p=.032), knowledge how to get answers (χ(1)=7.20, p=.007) and knowledge how to get community services (χ(1)=4.01, p=.045).
