Appendix 326 incredibly hard. Ivette, Laura, Kees, Annelies, Maria Oud, Floor, Clark, Tom, Joost, Marleen and Lizenka – you took the workload (and occasional chaos) of the first months of the VIS study in your stride and encouraged me to delegate tasks. It seems like we have all come so far since we stood by the whiteboard each morning, delegating the day’s house visits and telephone calls. Ertan, Dominique and Gerben-Rienk – you supported us in managing the enormous data-set of the VIS study, and were even asked to create a secure database for our study participants within just a few weeks. You rose to the challenge and were always willing to help. Marije, Ilja, and Romy – thank you for bringing your enthusiasm to the VIS study as research interns, helping to collect study data as well as conducting the preliminary analyses for several important research questions. I have no doubt that you are going to go from strength to strength in your careers. Anders, I have thoroughly enjoyed every discussion we have had since I first pestered you with countless questions. You have continued to feed your enthusiasm and knowledge into my analyses and I learned much from you in the process. Godelieve, your broad clinical experience and positive attitude always made working with you a pleasure. I know (and hope) that we will bump into one another at conferences where we may have the chance to finally chat about infectious diseases other than COVID-19. Alvin, I will never cease to be in awe of the magic you perform in Python and hope to be half as proficient at data analyses one day. I enjoyed working together immensely and hope that you will pop by Bangkok when you next visit this part of the world. Maartje, you helped Hugo and I so much in setting up the study, making sure we prioritized tasks in a sensible way. I am sure that we will cross paths again in the future given our love for clinical infectious diseases, global health, and research. Liza, you are an asset to any team you work with due to your unique mix of intelligence, work ethic, and ‘gezelligheid’. I look forward to seeing you become the head of ECDC one day. Yara, your bubbly enthusiasm rubs off on everyone you work with, and it has been a pleasure working with you in the COVID-19 team of the GGD as well as in a research setting. My one regret of the PhD trajectory was not being able to work from the GGD Amsterdam offices often enough. You saw me come and go, never quite sure of what I was busy with at the time, but always open to having a chat: Sophie, Kris, Marije, Vita, Mark, Jeffrey, Silvia, Eline, Bart, Joel, Suzanne, Maarten S., Udi, Maarten de J., Daniel and Jizzo. Janneke and Ellen, it was so nice to work with you again later at the GGD Flevoland. Thank you also to Maria O., Will, Nora, and Yola for always being prepared to answer my questions. Agata and Nelleke, from the tuberculosis clinic, thank you for helping us define the research questions and organize logistics around the pulmonary function tests in the VIS study.
