Joëlle Schutten

184 Joëlle Catharina Schutten was born on October 31th 1992 in Schoonebeek, The Netherlands. In 2010, she graduated from the Hondsrugcollege in Emmen. The same year, she started her study Nutrition and Dietetics at the Hanzehogeschool Groningen. She completed her dietetic internship in Heerlen and her bachelor thesis in Breda. After graduating in Groningen, Joelle continued her education at the VU University in AmsterdamstudyingHealth Sciences.She completed her master thesis under supervision of prof. dr. Stephan Bakker at the Department of Internal Medicine University Medical Center Groningen. She received her Master’s degree in 2016 with the specialization Nutrition and Health. In the same year, she continued with a PhD-fellowship under supervision of prof. dr. Stephan Bakker and prof. dr. Martin de Borst at the same department. During her PhD, she investigated health aspects of magnesium status and magnesium supplementation. To do so, she set up and performed an intervention trial and used data from large databases, such as LifeLines and PREVEND. The studies that she conducted resulted in this thesis. While finishing her PhD, she started working as a coordinator at the Cohort and Biobank Coordination Hub (CBCH) at the University Medical Center Groningen where she is involved in policy development and quality management within the scope of UMCG cohorts and biobanks.
