419 About the author ABOUT THE AUTHOR A ernoud T.L. Fiolet was born on April 5th, 1989 and raised in the warm south of the Netherlands, in Maastricht. He attended secondary school at the Gymnasium of the St. Maartens College, were he graduated in 2007. After a short visit to India he started medical school at Utrecht University in Utrecht. In 2011 he started historic and contemporary research on neurosyphilis together with dr. Ingrid Daey Ouwens. He did a clinical rotation of Dermatology at the Royal Alfred Hospital in Sydney, Australia, in 2012 and a clinical rotation of Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California - San Diego in 2013. After graduating Medical School he started in 2015 as intern at the Department of Cardiology at the Meander Medical Centre in Amersfoort. Shortly after, he started a PhD track on inflammation in coronary disease parallel to his clinical work. His scientific supervisors were dr. Arend Mosterd (Meander Medical Centre, Amersfoort) and dr. Jan Hein Cornel (Northwest Hospital Group, Alkmaar). In 2016 he and the Dutch Network for Cardiovascular Research (WCN) successfully applied for a €900.000 grant from the Efficiency Studies program of The Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMW). Funding was extended with support from the Netherlands Heart Foundation, the Withering Stichting the Netherlands, and a consortium of general pharmacists TEVA/Disphar/TioFarma. During the following years he was closely involved in the design, coordination and analyses of the Low-Dose Colchicine 2 (LoDoCo2) trial, of which the main results are part of this thesis. During his PhD course he supervised 12 medical students, lectured in general cardiology and electrophysiology and was involved in innovative methods of data collection. In 2018 he started as cardiologist in training at the University Medical Centre in Utrecht. In 2021 he obtained a second Masters degree as clinical epidemiologist with Clinical Epidemiology and Medical Statistics as sub- specialisations and finished a two year clinical program of Internal Medicine in Amersfoort. Aernoud currently works at the department of Cardiology at the Jeroen Bosch Ziekenhuis in ‘s Hertogenbosch.
