Hans van den Heuvel

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Hans van den Heuvel (born on the 28th of August in 1988) spent his childhood with his parents and his little sister Kiek in Vught, Noord-Brabant. He obtained his diploma from Gymnasium Beekvliet in Sint-Michielsgestel in 2006. Inspired by his high schoolmentor andhis grandfather, he startedmedical school at the University of Amsterdam / AMC. On one of the first days of university, he tured 18 in his new hometown, Amsterdam. After finishing the first 4 years of university, he went to Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania for several months to gain experience in East-African healthcare and most important, enjoy this beautiful continent. Back at university, he discovered his interest for future work during one of the last clinical rotations at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department in the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam. He then quickly arranged his last additional rotations at the departments of Urology and Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the OLVG hospital Amsterdam. After having obtained his medical degree in 2014, he started working in the Gynaecology departments of the Jeroen Bosch Ziekenhuis in ‘s-Hertogenbosch (where he was born himself) and later in Spaarne Gasthuis, Haarlem. In 2015 he started this PhD research project under the supervision of prof. dr. Arie Franx and dr. Mireille Bekker at the department of Obstetrics in the University Medical Center Utrecht. The research focused on use of digital health in the management of high-risk pregnancy. He combined this position with weekly shifts on the labor ward of the Wilhelmina Children’s Hospital in Utrecht, a tertiary care perinatal center. After moving from Amsterdam to Utrecht in 2019, he started as a resident in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Elizabeth Tweesteden Ziekenhuis in Tilburg under the supervision of dr. Ilse van Rooij and dr. Jesper Smeenk. When not at work in Tilburg, Hans and his girlfriend Inez are strolling through Utrecht with their daughter Luce, currently waiting for their second daughter to be born in the spring of 2021.
